The Human Energy Bodies

We know that there are many things in existence which go beyond the ability of normal senses of touch, sight, hearing, taste and smell to perceive, so it is not a great a leap of faith to accept the possibility that we also have invisible bodies interpenetrating our physical body, which vibrate at a higher rate than we are consciously able to perceive.

Certainly almost all traditional mystical and spiritual systems describe a number of these bodies, although they do not all agree on how many of them there are and what their purpose is. The following classification is based on Theosophy which seems to be the most commonly expressed system in recent times.

We have etheric, astral and mental bodies and, according to those who can see them, up to seven bodies all vibrating at different rates. The etheric body dies with the physical body shortly after death, but the astral, mental and other higher bodies may survive the physical body at death and move on to other planes of existence.

The Etheric Body
The etheric body is the lowest vibrating of the energy bodies and thus the easiest for the budding clairvoyant to see. It is the most closely related to the physical, can travel during sleep to far off places and dies with the physical body at death. It is responsible for some aspects of instinctual behaviour.

The Astral Body and the Astral Plane
The astral body is less dense than the etheric body and is also able to separate from the physical body during meditation or sleep. It is able to travel in the astral plane whereas the Etheric body travels through our normal physical plane. It is believed to be the astral body of a loved one which is contactable on the astral plane by psychics after death.

We use our own astral body to perceive most psychic phenomena, particularly to extend the capacity of the human eye or ear.

It connects to the Astral Plane, otherwise known as the fourth dimension, or the Christian first heaven.  This is the territory where "angels fear to tread", as many of the inhabitants are not very nice.

The Mental Body and the Mental Plane
Similarly the mental body is less dense still and operates on the mental plane. This body is responsible for intuition, or the ability to obtain information or ideas without any apparent source for them.  It connects to the mental plane, otherwise known as the fifth dimension or the Christian second heaven.  If you want to make altered states contacts, this is the desirable location, as most beings living there are good guys.

The Chakras

In addition to energy bodies we have chakras. The word chakra comes from Sanskrit and means wheel. They are like wheels of energy spinning at particular points on a body. The link the physical body with its energy bodies and act is fulcrums for the exchange of energies between the outside world, the physical body and its energy bodies.

To clairvoyant sight they vibrate with numerous colours, with a different dominent colour for each chakra. By stimulating these chakras we can induce paranormal abilities and mystical states of consciousness. The principal seven chakras, their locations and their predominant colours are:

• base chakra, at the base of the spine, principal colour red
• navel chakra, a little below the navel, principal colour orange
• solar plexus chakra, at the solar plexus, principal colour yellow
• heart chakra, centre of chest, principal colour green or pink
• throat chakra, throat, principal colour pale blue
• third eye chakra, between and a little above the eyes, principal colour dark blue(indigo)
• crown chakra, the crown of the head ,principal colour purple (violet)
